Director
As a director for stage and screen, I am invested in collaborating with actors and the production team to create an inclusive environment that supports the contribution and artistry of the diversity of voices in the room. I utilize the practices of shared inquiry, active listening, and consent to craft a work of art that is stylistically unified, dynamic, and rooted in the intentions of the writer(s) of the work. Additionally, the energy, vitality, drive, and emotional depth of my own artistic voice acts as the underlying canvas that supports the colors, shapes, and lines of everyone’s contributions.
As a stage director, I have directed contemporary plays, musicals, new works, children’s theatre, and classical pieces. I have directed at Tecumseh Outdoor Drama, Theatre Southeast, Swamp Gravy, WonderQuest Children’s Theatre, The Gainesville Theatre Alliance, the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi, and Florida State University. Additionally, I have directed three solo shows.
As a screen director, I have directed Firemax (narrative short), Boss, Jaybird, & Me (pilot), commercials for Kevin Frye for Senate and Wadkins for Congress, Your Loss Not Mine (music video), and The Theatre Director (documentary short).

REVIEWS:
“The director’s hand in this is nearly invisible, which in the case of mingled repartee, combat, and slapstick is a very good and mature thing. Ledbetter’s ‘Playboy’ seems effortless and natural, which is a bit of magic.” — Tuscaloosa News
“The musical ‘Gentlemen’ that opened this week in the Lab Theatre had exactly the right cheeky charm and scruffy spirit….The well-oiled ensemble effectively demolished the ‘fourth wall’, interacting freely with the audience and even bringing the action into the seats.” — Tallahassee Democrat
“‘The Shape of Things’ is outstanding — it shines both technically and artistically. Director Rory Ledbetter was able to take LaBute’s extremely complicated script and turn it into a very honest and exciting piece of theatre.” –FSView
